Terriers Kick Off 2015-16 Season
October 5, 2015 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON - Returning all but one player from last season, the Boston University women's basketball team held its first official practice of the 2015-16 season on Monday morning in Case Gym.
Second year head coach Katy Steding welcomes five newcomers and nine returners to the court, including six players that started 17 games or more.
BU starts preparations for a tough non-conference schedule packed with northeast opponents including MAAC finalist Marist and America East Champion Albany.
Fans get their first chance to see BU in action at The Roof on Friday, Nov. 13 against crosstown rival Northeastern. Last season, the Terriers were edged by the Huskies, 75-74 and look to avenge the loss to their long-standing foe.
One week prior to the season opener, the team will be participating in a tip-off event free to the public in Case Gym on Thursday, Nov. 5. More information will be available on GoTerriers.com in the coming weeks.
BU returns its top-scorer from last season, Meghan Green, who contributed 11.5 points per game and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game. The team also welcomes back sharp-shooting Sarah Hope, who led the team with 41 three-pointers despite suffering a season-ending injury midway through the year.
The Terriers will have solid leadership from their two seniors, Troi Melton (7.2 ppg, 1.0 spg) and Clodagh Scannell (5.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg). Melton returns for a fifth year and looks to continue her impressive performance from the end of last season, averaging 13.5 points per game in the final eight contests including a career-high 23 point performance.
These returners are joined by four freshmen and a transfer student, Sophie Beaudry, who will sit out the 2015-16 season according to NCAA rules. The 6'5 Milla Ekstrom brings much needed height to the post position while a pair of speedy guards, Payton Hauck and Lauren Spearman, will up the tempo for BU this season. Forward Naiyah Thompson rounds out this year's newcomers and will add depth to the Terriers' core of forwards including Green, Erin Bayram and Kara Sheftic.
Season tickets for women's basketball will be $65 for the general public with special pricing for faculty/staff ($50) and young alumni ($40).
