PRINCETON, N.J. - Highlighted by a victory in the men's four race, the Boston University men's rowing team continued its impressive fall season competing in the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Sunday.
Competing against a large and strong field of division 1 schools for the second time in two weeks, the Terriers' first varsity eight, coxed by sophomore MacKenzie Hart and stroked by junior Aleksandar Marinkovski, finished fourth with a time of 13:12.09. The V8 finished behind only Princeton, Yale and Cornell and was faster than crews from Cal, Dartmouth and Wisconsin.
The Terriers' second varsity eight, coxed by Maggie Read and stroked by sophomore TJ Ruijgh, finished 12th with a time of 13:29.37, second among "B" boats. BU's third varsity eight finished with a time of 14:03.52, in 32nd place in a field of 65 boats.
Later in the day, in the men's heavyweight four event, the Terriers "A" boat finished first, winning the varsity four race at the Princeton Chase for the second-consecutive year. Coxed by senior Maggie Read and stroked by Mackenzie Copp, the "A" boat completed the course with a time of 14:57.60, ahead of Cornell, Princeton and George Washington. The Terrier's "C" boat finished with a time of 15:26.55, the second-fastest time among "C" boats behind only Princeton and finished 9th overall. The "B" boat finished 10th with a time of 15:28.45.
"We are really pleased with the win in the Varsity 4," said men's head rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. "We won this event last year, so it was gratifying to finish first again. We did not have our best race in the varsity 8, so it was motivating for the guys to go back out and finish off the day with a win."
Showing its depth, the Terriers sent seven boats out on the day and four finished in the top ten in a large and talented field.
The Terriers will complete their fall season on November 21 at the Foot of the Charles.
