No. 12 Men’s Rowing Boasts Strong Showing Against No. 13 Cornell

SARATOGA, N.Y. – The No. 12 Boston University men's rowing program competed in close races with No. 13 Cornell on Fish Creek on Saturday. The water on the creek was decent with blustery cross/head wind through the races.

The Varsity 8 race saw BU finish in 5:56.980 for its fastest time of the day. The boat, coxed by senior Emily Slawin and stroked by graduate student Alessandro Gardino, finished nearly six seconds ahead of Cornell to earn a dominant win on the water.

The Fourth Varsity 8 and Fifth Varsity 8 kicked off the day's competition, with the 4V8 finishing in 6:27.441 to take first in the race. The boat, coxed by sophomore Ben Brinckerhoff and stroked by sophomore Mason Laundry, finished seven seconds ahead of Cornell.

BU's races in the Third Varsity 8 and Second Varsity 8 were decided in margins of less than two seconds. The 2V8 was coxed by junior James Smith and stroked by senior Ian Varga and came across the finish line in 6:11.384, just one second behind Cornell. The 3V8, coxed by senior Luke Stroh and stroked by freshman Griffith Coupland, finished in a time of 6:15.170 but drifted out of its lane and was disqualified, but the times were kept as no collision occurred.

The Terriers look ahead to the both Lake Morey Invite in Vermont next weekend where they will race Wisconsin, Syracuse, Dartmouth and Georgetown and the Lusins Cup against Columbia in New Jersey.
