WAKEFIELD, Mass. - After helping the Boston University men's ice hockey team earn a weekend sweep of Northeastern in his return from injury, senior captain Matt Grzelcyk was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.
Grzelcyk made his season debut following offseason knee surgery and made an immediate impact, scoring the first goal in both of the Terriers' wins over Northeastern.
On Friday at Agganis, Grzelcyk received a warm ovation from the home crowd and proceeded to opening the scoring midway through the first period before later adding an assist in a 5-4 comeback victory.
The following night at Matthews Arena, Grzelcyk scored 5:16 into the contest to help the Terriers secure a 4-1 road win. The senior defenseman also finished the weekend with a plus-2 rating.
Grzelyck and the No. 11 Terriers will return to action on Friday (Nov. 13) when they visit top-ranked and undefeated Providence in a rematch of last year's national championship game. The game, which starts at 6 p.m., will be broadcast live on ASN and NESN.
