WAKEFIELD, Mass. - After making 36 saves to hand Quinnipiac its first loss of the season, senior goaltender Sean Maguire of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Maguire helped the Terriers close their first half with a statement, ending the Bobcats' 17-game unbeaten streak (15-0-2) with a 4-1 road victory on Saturday.
The senior netminder stopped the final 33 shots he faced after giving up an early goal and made saves on all 15 shots on goal that Quinnipiac generated on its power play.
Over his past 10 periods in goal, Maguire has posted a save percentage of .955 (85 saves on 89 shots).
This is the second time in his career that Maguire has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. He also earned the award as a freshman on March 18, 2013, after leading the Terriers to the Hockey East title game.
