
Terriers' Early Lead Not Enough To Escape Raiders

HAMILTON, N.Y. - A seven-point advantage early in the second half wasn't enough for the Boston University women's basketball team to fend off Colgate and the Terriers dropped a 67-54 decision to the Raiders on Wednesday night on Cotterell Court.
Corrine Williams had another career night and led the team with a personal best 14 points, going 6-of-10 from the field. Troi Melton scored 11 points and Meghan Green rounded out double-digit scoring with 10 points.
The Terriers came out strong in the first half, shooting over 42 percent from the field while the Raiders were held to 35 percent overall. BU shot slightly better than the Raiders in the second stanza but Colgate took 10 more shots which helped them gain an advantage, leading by as much as 18 in the half.
Colgate had four players in double-digit scoring and was led by Randyll Butler, who went 7-of-9 from the field and tallied 18 points. Carole Harris had a double-double for the Raiders, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 boards.
Turnovers were costly for BU with 23 miscues turning into 22 points for the Raiders. Of those turnovers, 13 were accounted for by Colgate steals. The Raiders also posted 10 blocks against the Terriers.
The first half featured four lead changes and 13 tied scores and neither team led by more than three points in the opening 20 minutes. Williams contributed eight points in the half while Meghan Green added six to the board. With four minutes to play in the opening stanza, BU regained the lead and kept it for the remainder of the half to go into the locker room with a 29-28 advantage.
BU came out strong in the second half, increasing their lead to seven points, 37-30, with 17 minutes left to play. The Raiders would answer with a 14-0 run over the next six minutes to take a seven-point lead of their own. The run would ultimately decide the game as Colgate continued to add to its advantage for the remainder of the half, leading by as much as 18 points before taking a 67-54 win against the Terriers. BU is back in action on Saturday when the team travels to Loyola Maryland for a 2 p.m. tip with the Greyhounds.
