
Terriers Open Spring Break with 6-1 Loss to NIU

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Competing for the first time during its spring break trip to Florida, the Boston University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Northern Illinois on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies (12-3) swept through doubles by a combined score of 18-7 for the first point and then won five of six singles points, including three in straight sets.
Sophomores Jay Leelavanich and Jake De Vries battled NIU's No. 3 doubles team to the end in a 6-4 loss before recording a split in singles action. Leelavanich earned a 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 win at No. 3 to improve to 4-1 in the dual season, while De Vries was held off in a tough 6-1, 5-7, 10-5 loss.
Sophomore Lucas Bombonatti also tried to mount a rally at No. 6 singles but came up just short, 6-1, 5-7, 10-5. In another hard-fought contest, NIU defeated sophomore Mario Sandoval, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 4 slot.
The Terriers (2-3) will next visit Florida Atlantic on Thursday (March 12) at 11:30 a.m.
