WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Jack Eichel of the third-ranked Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named the Hockey East Warrior Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Eichel put up three points in both games of the Terriers' sweep of Merrimack in the quarterfinal round of the Hockey East tournament to become the first BU player in 18 years to score over 60 points in a season.
In his postseason debut on Friday, Eichel scored two goals, including the game-winner, and added an assist in a 6-2 triumph over the Warriors. The following night, the rookie picked up a trio of assists in BU's 5-0 shutout win to advance to the league semifinals.
This is the second time this season that Eichel has collected Hockey East Player of the Week honors. He is a three-time Hockey East Rookie of the Week.
With his weekend performance, Eichel secured the second 10-game point streak of his freshman campaign. He has 21 points on five goals and 16 assists during the stretch.
