BOSTON - The top-seeded Boston University men's ice hockey team (23-7-5) will take on eighth-seeded New Hampshire (19-18-2) in the semifinals of the 31st Hockey East Championship on Friday (March 20) at TD Garden. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
The contest will be televised live on NESN regionally and NBCSN nationally. In addition, TSN2 in Canada will show the game on tape delay beginning at 11 p.m.
Fourth-seeded UMass Lowell will face seventh-seeded Vermont in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. The winners will meet on Saturday (March 21) in the Hockey East title game at 7 p.m.
The Terriers were the lone team to earn a sweep in the Hockey East quarterfinal round, posting 6-2 and 5-0 wins over 11th-seeded Merrimack at Agganis Arena.
UNH is one of the hottest teams in the country, having won nine of its past 10 games. The Wildcats pulled off a 2-1 overtime victory at second-seeded Providence on Sunday in the third and decisive game of their quarterfinal series.
BU and UNH split their season series, as each team won in their own rink during a home-and-home weekend on Feb. 13-14. After the Terriers earned a 6-3 win in the opener, the Wildcats held on for a 4-3 victory the following night that ended up being the start of an eight-game win streak.
The Terriers and Wildcats have met 10 times in the Hockey East tournament and the Terriers have a 6-3-1 advantage, including wins in two of their three semifinal meetings. The teams are an even 2-2 in four tilts at TD Garden.
