Terrier Trio Earns All-CHN & All-USCHO Honors
April 14, 2015 | Men's Ice Hockey
Boston University led the nation with three players selected to the All-CHN and All-USCHO teams, which were both announced on Tuesday. Freshman Jack Eichel, junior Matt Grzelcyk and senior Evan Rodrigues were all honored by both national websites.
Eichel, who was named the College Hockey News Player and Rookie of the Year last week, was a first-team selection by both CHN and USCHO.
Grzelcyk joined Eichel on the All-USCHO First Team and was a second-team pick by CHN. Rodrigues was on the All-CHN Second Team and the All-USCHO Third Team.
While BU had all three of its standouts included in both announcements, no other school had more than one honoree on either list.
Just the second freshman Hobey Baker winner ever, Eichel led the nation in points (71), assist (45) and plus/minus (+51). He was named the Hockey East Player and Rookie of the Year before going on to earn Hockey East Tournament MVP accolades.
Grzelcyk had one of the best seasons by a Terrier defenseman in recent memory, recording 38 points (10g, 28a) and a rating of +32, which was the most of any Division I blueliner. He and Eichel were both named to the CCM All-America First Team.
Rodrigues finished second in nation in scoring, trailing only Eichel with 61 points on 21 goals and 40 assists. The Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Northeast Regional, Rodrigues had the most points by a BU senior in 19 years.
The three were instrumental in BU's 18-win improvement, which was the fifth-best in NCAA history, and helped the Terriers reach the national title game for the 11th time in program history.
