May 4, 2015 | Men's Tennis
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore Mario Sandoval of the Boston University men's tennis team has earned Patriot League All-Academic Team honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Sandoval becomes the first Terrier to receive an Academic All-Conference award since the America East began honoring its top men's tennis scholar-athletes in 2006. BU left the AE for the Patriot League in the summer of 2013.
Owning a 3.60 GPA while majoring in human physiology, Sandoval was a key contributor in both singles and doubles action this past season for BU. He was fourth on the team with 11 singles victories and tied-for-second with 10 doubles victories to help the Terriers reach their second consecutive Patriot League tournament semifinal.
Highlight singles wins came against Army West Point, Southern Miss, UConn and Colgate. He also posted strong doubles wins at No. 2 against Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate and Florida Atlantic.
In his freshman season, Sandoval was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for owning a GPA above 3.50.
