Horka, Collins Named Preseason All-Patriot League

BOSTON - For the third straight season, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team was picked to finish in third place in the Patriot League this season after advancing to the Patriot League Tournament semifinal round last season.
Defending Patriot League Champion Loyola Maryland finished at the top of the preseason poll, tallying 162 points and 18 first-place votes.
The Terriers finished last season with a 5-3 record in PL play and earned the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament. After defeating No. 5 Lehigh in the quarterfinal, BU lost to the 2015 tournament favorite and eventual champion, Loyola.
Two Terriers, Jill Horka and Mallory Collins, earned spots on the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, which consists of 12 student-athletes from six of the member institutions.
Horka, who makes the preseason list for the second-straight year, finished last season with a new BU record, setting the season standard in draw controls with 68 last year to help her to a First Team All-Patriot League and All-Tournament team selection. She also moved up to fourth all-time in career draw controls with 145, just 46 away from the school record. The senior led the team in caused turnovers (20) and had the fourth-most points with 22 including 19 goals.
Collins led the team in scoring last season, collecting 40 points including 38 goals. The fifth-year senior was named to the 2015 All-Patriot League second team for her impressive performance on the attack.
The Terriers begin the 2016 season on Feb. 14 when they host Boston College in a Battle for Commonwealth Ave. at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Season packages and individual tickets are now on sale.
