BETHLEHEM, Pa. -  The Boston University men's tennis team's season came to a close in the Patriot League quarterfinals on Friday evening, as the Terriers dropped a 4-3 decision to Bucknell with the last point being decided by a three-set singles thriller.
The Bison (14-12) claimed the doubles point with a tiebreaker and then captured three of the six singles points to eliminate the Terriers (8-11).

Junior Lucas Bombonatti and freshman Satyajit Simhadri led BU by first teaming together for a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. They then carried the momentum to singles with straight-set wins at lines 3 (6-4, 6-3) and 4 (6-2, 6-0), respectively.

Bucknell posted a 6-1 win in the No. 3 doubles slot against senior Stefan Lemire and junior Mario Sandoval before edging juniors Jay Leelavanich and Jake De Vries, 7-6(4), at line 2 to grab the early 1-0 advantage.

Two-time PL Player of the Year Nick Bybel bounced back from his doubles loss with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Leelavanich in the top singles slot. Daniel Wright followed his No. 3 doubles win with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lemire at No. 2 singles to remain ahead, 3-2.

With two singles matches remaining, De Vries rolled past Ben Gerber, 6-2, 6-2, at line 6 to even the match, leaving the final point and a PL semifinal berth up for grabs.

After winning just one game, Sandoval rallied from a set down to force a third set. He faced a 3-0 deficit and managed to pull within 4-2, but Andrei Vitiuc won the final two games to post the 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory for the Bison.
