
Gugel, Breiner Lead BU at Nassaney Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Abigail Gugel secured second in her collegiate debut to lead the Boston University women's cross country team at the season-opening Nassaney Invitational hosted by Bryant on Saturday morning.
Gugel and sophomore Courtney Breiner finished second and third, respectively, to help the Terriers take third as a team. BU scored 64 points, just three behind first-place Rhode Island. Brown edged the Terriers for second with 62 points, with Holy Cross finishing fourth (77 points).
Junior Gabrielle DiRenzo (18:58) followed Gugel (18:19) and Breiner (18:23) in 18th place, with classmate Paige Ferrucci and senior Hallie Armstrong finishing 20th and 21st, respectively. Both harriers crossed the line in 19:07.
Freshman Allyson Schlosser (19:37) was 36th and sophomore Alicia Huerta (19:38) took 37th. Senior Tina Romak turned in a time of 19:45 to finish 39th and round out the Terrier scoring.
Four other Terriers finished in the top 50, with freshman Lauren Gruber (20:15) and senior Colleen Tretheway (20:17) placing 45th and 46th, respectively. Sophomore Elin Wolker was 48th (20:20) and classmate Dominique Betterbed (20:25) in 49th place. Two other sophomores, Victoria Sil (20:26) and Lela Stemple (20:27), were 51st and 52nd, respectively, with classmate Jordan Nustad crossing the line in 21:23.
BU will have nearly a month off before the Terriers take part in the New England Championship at Franklin Park.
