CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After capturing a hard-fought doubles point, the Boston University men's tennis team claimed four singles points to defeat last year's Patriot League runner-up Navy, 5-2, on Saturday evening at MIT's J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble.

MATCH NOTES

The Terriers jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the top two doubles matches.
Senior Lucas Bombonatti teamed with sophomore Satyajit Simhadri for a 6-4 win at line 1, while seniors Jake De Vries and Mario Sandoval posted a 7-5 victory in the No. 2 slot.
Navy avoided the doubles sweep by edging senior Jay Leelavanich and freshman J.P. Avila, 6-4.
Leelavanich rebounded from his doubles loss with a dominating 6-3, 6-2 victory at line 2.
Bombonatti also won in straight sets against 2016 All-PL Second Team honoree Thomas Pecor, 6-2, 7-6(2).
Both De Vries and Sandoval prevailed at lines 5 and 6, respectively, in three-set victories to help clinch the team win.
The Midshipmen avoided the shutout by claiming a point in the No. 3 and 4 slots ... They swept freshman Mar Sable (7-5, 6-4) at No. 4 and then held off Simhadri's rally for a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(5) win.
BU claimed its first victory over Navy since joining the Patriot League in the summer of 2013 ... The Midshipmen eliminated the Terriers in both the 2014 and 2015 semifinals.
