LOWELL, Mass. – Ranked as high as No. 9 nationally by TopDrawer Soccer, America East preseason favorite UMass Lowell scored two quick goals and withstood seven corner kicks to defeat the Boston University men's soccer team, 2-0, on Friday night at Cushing Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After successfully clearing a pair of BU corners in the eighth minute, the River Hawks drew a foul near the left side of their box and converted on Guilherme Rodrigues' free kick with a header by 2016 ECAC Rookie of the Year Ivan Abramovic that went inside the right post at 10:41.
Rodrigues earned his second assist during a breakaway 84 seconds later when he sent a cross into the box for Richard Mull to tap in past defenseless freshman goalkeeper William Bonnelyche.
Earning his first shutout of the season, UML's Austin Kroll posted two saves late in the first half and added two more in the second.

GAME NOTES

BU remains ahead in the all-time series, 4-2-0, after UML avenged a 1-0 loss at Nickerson Field in 2015.
The River Hawks edged the Terriers in shot attempts, 9-7, despite BU owning a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Toti Knutsson joined Bonnelyche in starting in his debut for the Terriers.
Junior Ben Valek led BU with two shot attempts, while freshman Elias Lampis, sophomore Jerry Ozor, sophomore Matt McDonnell and senior Adam Sheikali all had a shot on net.

NEXT UP: TERRIER TAILGATE

The Terriers will have a quick turnaround and return home Sunday (Sept. 3) to host the Haiti National Olympic Team as part of the 11^th-annual Terrier Tailgate.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. with action slated to begin at 4 p.m.
Fans attending the game are advised to use public transportation, as parking will be reserved for students moving back onto campus.
