BOSTON – On Sept. 2, the Boston University men's lacrosse team once again participated in "Bike to the Beach", a 100-mile bike ride that raises money and awareness for autism.
This was the third straight year that the Terriers participated in the Bike to the Beach. Several players and coaches completed the 100-mile ride from Boston to Newport, Rhode Island, with other team members supporting the riders at rest stops along the route. So far this year, men's lacrosse has raised $29,817 for the cause, which is the second most raised by any group that took part in the New England event. In its three years of work with Bike to the Beach, the team has raised more than $78,000.
"I'm so proud of the team for all that they did for this great cause," head coach Ryan Polley said. "From the guys that embarked on the challenging bike ride to everyone who volunteered along the route and at the finish line, our program came together in a remarkable way. In particular, Tommy Connelly was instrumental in making this event a success, and I'm extremely proud of all of his hard work and dedication to Bike to the Beach."
Founded in 2007, Bike to the Beach's mission is to raise funds and awareness for autism, while promoting fun and fitness through cycling. Donations are made to Autism Speaks and other local autism charities to aid in their efforts to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum, a neurological disorder that affects one out of every 68 children.
