BOSTON – With the 2017-18 academic year underway, the Boston University women's lacrosse team has welcomed 11 incoming freshmen into the program, as announced by head coach
Liz Robertshaw Monday.
Â
The class of 2021 consists of five midfielders, five attackers and one defender, ranging from six states, including three Massachusetts natives.
Â
"I'm excited about the BU Class of 2021 finally arriving on campus as it's been a long time in the making," said head coach
Liz Robertshaw. "This is a diverse group of young women who I feel bring a lot to the table both on and off the field. They've got personality, a solid work ethic and believe in what we are all about here at BU Lacrosse."

Â
Danielle Augier
M | 5-10 | Bloomfield Hills, Mich. | Birmingham Seaholm
Â
Augier racked up national honors in being named U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American as a junior, was named an Under Armour All-American Midwest Team as a sophomore and earned Brine National High School All-American honors as a freshman. Additionally, she led Birmingham Seaholm to two regional championships and made the all-state first team as a junior.
Â
Robertshaw on Augier:
"Danielle's work on the draw control is something that stood out to our staff from the very first time we watched her play and got better every time we saw her after. Knowing the importance of possession in our game, we felt she could be a great compliment to sophomore Mackenzie Howe on the draw immediately."

Ava Barry
A | 5-4 | Lake Grove, N.Y. | Middle Country
Â
Barry also made marks nationally as she finished second in the nation in scoring after recording 58 goals and 59 assists en route to earning All-American honors as a senior. Barry helped guide Middle Country to the Long Island championship and closed out her career with her third all-county selection. Barry also stared on the soccer pitch, earning two all-county selections.
Â
Robertshaw on Barry:
"I'm really excited about adding Ava to our attacking unit and in particular the X position. Her vision, shifty dodging ability from crease and game sense are all components of the game we put a high value on here at BU. Having graduated Taylor Hardison in the back field, we were looking for a player who could come in and push for that spot immediately and we feel Ava has that ability."

Jenny Feeney
M | 5-6 | Milton, Mass. | Milton Academy
Â
A local product out of Milton, Feeney was honored as Milton Academy's Team MVP for three straight seasons and was also a three-time All-ISL first team selection. Feeney was named a
Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic as a sophomore after leading Milton Academy in goals (30), caused turnovers (26), ground balls (48) and draw controls (35).
Â
Robertshaw on Feeney:
"Jenny is a player we saw later in the recruiting process and is a great find. She's tough as nails, wants to win and is willing to put a game and/or a team on her shoulders to win because she embraces competition. Having played for BU Lacrosse alum Molly Swain, we know she is mentally and physically aware of what is needed to find success here."

Reilly Fletcher
M | 5-9 | Newtown, N.J. | The Lawrenceville School
Â
A two-time U.S. Lacrosse All-American, Fletcher was a four-year standout at The Lawrenceville School, earning four all-prep selections and was a two-time
Trenton Times Midfielder of the Year. Along with her individual accolades, Fletcher guided The Lawrenceville School to four straight Mid-Atlantic Prep League championships and was presented with Lawrenceville's Best Female Athlete Award as a senior.
Â
Robertshaw on Fletcher:
"Reilly is your quintessential college midfielder in that she is strong on the draw control, a scoring threat with and without the ball on attack and a solid defensive player. Her experience playing high-level field hockey and ice hockey brings a great game sense and fast decision making skill to her lacrosse game. We feel she will be a great addition to our midfield unit."
Â
Nicole Foringer
D | 5-7 | Hamilton, Mass. | New Hampton School
Â
Foringer also brings a championship pedigree as she led the New Hampton School to four regular season championships and three Lake Region titles. A four-year letterwinner, she was named a NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American as a senior, and also lettered all four years in soccer.
Â
Robertshaw on Foringer:
"From the first time I coached Nicole at a clinic, I knew she was a going to become a leader and I knew I wanted her at BU. Nicole has pushed through adversity to get to this point and she's done it with a task-driven, fighter mentality which has continued to impress me. I'm looking forward to seeing Nicole on the field and what she's going to bring to the table from a playing perspective, but also a leadership one."

Ryann Gaffney
M | 5-11 | Huntington, N.Y. | Huntington
Â
Gaffney posted a standout season during her senior campaign at Huntington, earning Academic All-American and all-county honors, as well as being named the Hunting Team MVP. As a junior, she was an Inside Lacrosse All-Star. Gaffney shined on the track as well, breaking four school records and guided Huntington to back-to-back county championships.
Â
Robertshaw on Gaffney:
"Ryann's the type of player that you walk up to a field and say, "who's that kid?" immediately. She has the build, aggressiveness and attitude that is great for a middie in the DI game. Over our time recruiting Ryann, she has proven to be coachable, hard-working and best yet shows a love for playing the game -Â all of which are key attributes to a BU Lacrosse player."
Megan Hickey
A | 5-7 | Wye Mills, Md. | Saint Peter and Paul
Â
A four-year letterwinner and two-time captain at Saint Peter and Paul, Hickey posted an accomplished career as she was a four-time all-conference and two-time All-Mid Shore First Team selection. The Co-Player of the Year and Team MVP as a junior, she also was a two-time captain in both soccer and basketball, where she was a four-time all-conference in soccer and a first team all-conference member in basketball.
Â
Robertshaw on Hickey:
"What grabbed our attention when watching Megan play was her sense of where her teammates were on the field at all times and her ability to hit them with spot feeds. She has the ability to control an offensive situation with her composure and decision making, and that is something are going to look for her to bring to the next level of play."

Â
Makenzie Irvine
A | 5-6 | Villanova, Pa. | Academy of Notre Dame De Namur
Â
Following competing on the Brine National Team as a freshman, Irvine went on to become a three-time All-Interac, All-Delco and All-Main Line at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, finishing as the 11th-leading scorer in Delaware County.
Â
Robertshaw on Irvine:
"Kenzie is a smart attacker who's game knowledge puts her in a solid spot for making an impact early in her career. Having played under Xan Weitzel (Zitamore), one of our standout crease attackers, she has a keen sense of what we are looking for on the offensive end and how to take advantage of scoring looks."

Â
Bridget McCarthy
A | 5-7 | Duxbury, Mass. | Notre Dame Academy
Â
The MIAA Sportsmanship Award recipient and a team captain as a senior at Notre Dame Acadey, McCarthy comes from a lacrosse pedigree as her sister, Siobhan, was a four-year member of the Terriers from 2012-15.
Â
Robertshaw on McCarthy:
"I love when a younger sister of a Terrier commits to BU because it means she, and her family, have a belief in the program and how it can positively shape her future. Bridget watched Siobhan's experience at BU and after careful thought, wanted to create her own name for herself here on the offensive end of the field, and she had the skill set and lacrosse IQ to do it."
Michelle Seger
A | 5-4 | Yorktown Heights, N.Y. | Yorktown
Â
Seger, a team captain as a senior, closed out her four-year career at Yorktown with 86 goals and 14 assists and was named the Yorktown Husker Club Outstanding Female Athlete. Additionally, she was a two-time all-section and all-leaguem and a three-time NYS Scholar-Athlete. Seger also was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball and captained the team as a senior.
Â
Robertshaw on Seger:
"Michelle is a tenacious offensive-minded player who has the ability to create scoring looks from all different points on the field. She comes from a high school program that prides itself on toughness, and that is something we are going to look for Michelle to bring to the field from the start."
Emily Vervlied
M | 5-5 | Lower Gwyneed, Pa. Wissahickon
Â
Vervlied led the league with 73 goals as a senior and picked up her third Wissahickon award as she was named Team MVP, following her Offensive MVP award as a junior and also collected Rookie of the Year honors. A four-time All-Suburban One League member and a three-time SOL Scholar-Athlete, Vervlied twice competed at the US Lacrosse Women's National High School Tournament.
Â
Robertshaw on Vervlied:
"Emily is a player who I think is going to help our midfield unit right away. Every game we evaluated Emily she was involved all over the field; getting draw controls, ground balls, double teaming in the ride, pushing the fast break, she was doing it all. She has a serious put your head down and go to work mentality that we appreciate and feel will fit in well with our veteran midfield."
