BOSTON - The No. 24 Boston University field hockey team clinched its fourth straight Patriot League regular-season title on Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 home victory over Lehigh at New Balance Field.
The Terriers will host the Patriot League tournament on Nov. 2 & 4 and will be the top seed as they attempt to defend their 2017 title. American, Bucknell and Lafayette have clinched the other three spots in the tournament.
On Saturday, sophomore Ailsa Connolly scored twice while classmate Maggie New notched her first goal as a Terrier. Seniors Kara Enoch and Ally Hammel each found of the back of the cage to help BU improve to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in PL play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU got on the board early when Enoch redirected a pass from classmate Allie Doggett to the netting just 3:07 into the contest.
- The Terriers doubled their lead late in the opening half when New broke up a Lehigh clearing attempt at the top-right of the circle before drilling a shot to the boards for her first collegiate tally.
- Connolly quickly turned the 2-0 cushion into a 4-0 lead with impressive shots deep in the circle following passes by junior Kiley Gallagher each time.
- Gallagher used a long pass to find Connolly just inside the circle, where she got a touch and created space for a reverse-stick drive that went between Lehigh goalkeeper Paige Innarella's legs at 50:39.
- Less than two minutes later, Gallagher found Connolly on the right side and the sophomore curled around before blasting a shot to the back of the cage from 10 yards out.
- Hammel took a direct insert off a corner in the 60th minute to score her third goal of the season in the 60th minute, making it a 5-0 contest.
- Lehigh spoiled BU's shutout bid in the final minute off a corner when Amanda Boyer lifted a shot to the net near the right post.

- BU held a 25-4 shot advantage and earned 10 corners while allowing only three.
- Innarella turned in an 11-save performance for the Mountain Hawks.
- Senior Kathleen Keegan stopped the only shot she faced in nearly 60 minutes of time in the BU cage before junior Livy Golini played the final 10:30.
- New became the 14th Terrier to score a goal this season.
