Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Terriers Fall Short Against Maine, 3-1

BOSTON – The Boston University men's ice hockey team had a three-game win streak snapped on Saturday evening in a 3-1 loss to Maine at Agganis Arena.

The Black Bears scored once in each period, capped by an empty-netter, and led wire-to-wire to earn a weekend split following the Terriers' 3-2 victory on Friday.

BU was unbeaten in its previous four games (3-0-1) and now sits at 3-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in Hockey East play. Maine improves to 4-5-1 with a 2-3-1 conference record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Maine had just one power play all contest but made the most of it as Mitchell Fossier scored off a rebound by the left post 10:58 into the contest.
  • Just 15 seconds after matching minors early in the second, the Black Bears doubled their lead on a tally by Chase Pearson.
  • BU cut the deficit to 2-1 midway through the middle period when senior Bobo Carpenter scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season.
  • Sophomore Logan Cockerill curled behind the net to the left post and left the puck for Carpenter, who sent it in at 9:50.
  • The Terriers had six power plays on the night, including three with the score 2-1, but could not take advantage of the opportunities.
  • BU pulled goaltender Jake Oettinger in favor of an extra attacker with 1:15 to play but Pearson pounced on a loose puck and scored on the empty net from Maine's zone to seal the victory for the visitors.

GAME NOTES

  • Jeremy Swayman earned first-star honors by stopping 40 BU shots as the Terriers held a 41-25 shot advantage.
  • Junior Dante Fabbro picked up an assist on Carpenter's goal to stretch his point streak to five games (2g, 7a).
  • Oettinger turned in a 22-save effort for the Terriers.

UP NEXT

  • BU will head overseas on Sunday for a weeklong trip to the island of Ireland, where they will spend a full day in Dublin before heading to Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the 2018 Friendship Four.
  • The Terriers will face UConn on Friday (Nov. 23) in the semifinal round at 2 p.m. ET.
