BOSTON - Returning to the floor after a week off from competition, the Boston University women's basketball team will head to UMass for a midweek test on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN+
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU dropped its third straight road game, falling 64-44 at Dartmouth last Wednesday.
- Freshman Riley Childs impressed in her first career start, posting a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor
- Fellow freshman Chiara Tibbitt also made her first start, marking the first time BU has had two rookies in the starting lineup since 2015.
- Payton Hauck led the Terriers with six rebounds and six assists apiece.
- Lauren Spearman is tied for the Patriot League lead in 3-pointers per game (3.0) and leads the conference in minutes (38.3).
- Spearman ranks second on the team with 10.4 points per game and has accounted for 21 of the team's 39 makes from beyond-the-arc, good for 53.8 percent.
- Katie Nelson leads team with 4.0 assists per game, which ranks second in the league.
- The Terriers have shot at least 70.0 percent from the free throw line in all seven games this season.
- Additionally, the Terriers rank second in the league with a 77.2 shooting clip from the line.
SCOUTING UMASS
- The Minutewomen are coming off a 71-59 win over Incarnate Word to push their overall record to 6-4, which includes a 4-1 mark at home.
- Junior Hailey Leidel posted her third double-double of the season, registering 20 points and 11 rebounds.
- Leidel leads the team in scoring (14.3) and rebounding (7.9).
- Bre Hampton-Bey follows in scoring average (13.5) and rebounding (5.7).
- The sophomore also leads UMass with 4.1 assists per game and steals (18).
THE SERIES
- BU won the most recent matchup, 64-60, on its home floor Dec. 14, 2016 to regain the edge in the series, 15-14.
- Neither team has won more than two straight games over 12 contests since 1993.
- The Terriers have taken four of the last seven matchups this decade and will seek their first win in Amherst since 2013.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will travel down Comm Ave to Boston College on Sunday, Dec. 16.
- BU outlasted the Eagles, 61-57, last season to snap a four-game skid to its crosstown rival.
- Sunday's contest will be the 25th meeting between the two Boston foes.
