BOSTON – After making a historic impact on Terrier Athletics in 2017, Boston University is proud to announce that Giving Day is back. The 24-hour online fundraising initiative returns for its fifth year on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
In 2017, Terrier Nation came together to shatter the previous year's record, as 3,555 unique donors contributed $1,020,355 in support of varsity programs. In fact, Athletics accounted for 44 percent of all giving University-wide in 2017. Two athletics programs, men's ice hockey and men's rowing, were the top fundraising units on campus.
"Giving Day 2017 showcased the inspiring generosity from the entire BU Athletics community," Director of Athletics Drew Marrochello said. "Once again our sights are set on raising more than one million dollars in this 24-hour window. We are eager to see how Terrier Nation responds to the increased number of donor challenges which we hope will set another milestone in support of our student-athletes."
Giving Day 2018 – The Challenges
The fundraising competition, spearheaded by Athletics' Giving Day 2018 Chair Mary Buletza (Questrom '80) and Vice Chair Charley Lax (Questrom '82), has initiated a set of challenges among all varsity programs. Tim Burr (MET '97) and an anonymous current parent have generously sponsored the Men's and Women's Varsity Team Challenges with $50,000 available in bonus prizes.
*NEW* Most Dollars Raised: New this year, each team has been placed into a group with other varsity programs. The team that raises the most money within its assigned group on Giving Day 2018 will receive a bonus. Find a full breakdown of team matchups here.
Most Unique Donors: The top four men's and women's teams will each receive a bonus based on the most unique donors on Giving Day 2018. Find last year's results here.
Most Improved: The top three men's and women's teams with the largest percent change in number of unique donors compared to Giving Day 2017 will each receive a bonus. Giving Day has become an incredibly impactful day for Terrier student-athletes thanks to the support of so many alumni, parents and friends. With your help, we look forward to making this initiative an even bigger success in 2018.
