Kyle Shawgo returned to Boston University in October 2021 as the director of athletic development. Previously the Terriers' associate director of athletic development, Shawgo most recently served as the senior leadership gifts officer at Brown University.
Shawgo heads the Terriers' fundraising team and is in charge of enhancing, implementing and managing an annual giving program for Boston University Athletics while coordinating efforts to identify, cultivate and solicit leadership donors.
His role interacts with the director of athletics, senior leadership, varsity head coaches, assistant coaches and current student-athletes. The position acts as a central resource for events, calendar and communications as it pertains to the Athletic Development Office.
While at Brown, Shawgo engaged alumni, parents and friends on the West Coast in support of the $3 billion BrownTogether Campaign.Â
Under Shawgo’s watch in his first stop at BU, the Terrier Athletics Annual Fund saw tremendous growth, achieving back-to-back-to-back record-breaking years and crossing the $2 million mark for the first time ever in FY17. The department has enjoyed incredible success on BU Giving Day, having raised a new record in each of the previous four years and a historic $1,357,366 in 2019.
Shawgo served as the Director of the Beach Athletic Club at Long Beach State University from 2013-15. His responsibilities included managing the Athletics Annual Fund which raised $1,370,522 in FY15 from 1,468 donors, both significant increases over the previous year and The Director's Circle Giving Society which had 197 members contributing at least $1,500. He also maintained an active donor portfolio of leadership giving prospects and served as the fundraising liaison for track & field, cross country and women's soccer.
He previously served as an Annual Fund Assistant at the University of Minnesota Department of Athletics from 2011--13 where he received his masters of education in sport management in 2012. His duties included generating revenue through gift renewals and season ticket purchases as well as planning the acknowledgement and stewardship program tracking donor gifts and benefits.
Shawgo is a 2011 graduate of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis., where he was a four-year member of the men's soccer team and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
