Lightweights Look to Regain Eastern Sprints Title on Sunday

BOSTON - The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight rowing team will compete at Women's Eastern Sprints Championship on Sunday in Worcester, Mass. The Terriers will send out four boats to the prestigious competition on Lake Quinsigamond and battle crews from Harvard, Wisconsin, Princeton and Georgetown.

The Terriers will look to regain the Ulbrich Trophy they won as regatta champions in 2016 after finishing fourth as a team last year.

"Women's Sprints promises to be the most hotly contested in years, and the team has been preparing accordingly," said lightweight rowing head coach Malcolm Doldron. "We have four crews capable of reaching the podium on Sunday and we're excited to see them compete and execute at a high level."

The first race of the day for the BU lightweights will be the third varsity eight grand final at 12:30 p.m. with the Terriers battling Wisconsin, Harvard and Princeton. Next up will be the BU lightweight double grand final at 12:40 p.m. followed by the varsity four grand final at 12:50 p.m.

The Terriers' No. 1 seeded V8 boat will then race in the 1V grand final at 1:00 p.m. against No. 2 seed Georgetown, No. 3 Princeton, No 4 Wisconsin and No. 5 Harvard.

The Terriers will look to regain the Women's Eastern Sprints Ulbrich Trophy they won as regatta champions back in 2016. Last year, the Terriers finished fourth in the varsity eight grand final and third in the second varsity grand final on their way to a fourth-place finish as a team with 16 points, behind regatta winner Wisconsin (38), Harvard (35) and Princeton (17).

After Sunday's competition, the Terriers will next compete at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa. on May 11-12, before heading to Collingswood, N.J. to compete in the IRA National Championship Regatta on June 1-3.
