No. 8 Terriers Fall to No. 7 Northeastern

RESULTS
BOSTON - The No. 8 Boston University varsity eight boat fell to No. 7 Northeastern on Saturday, losing the Arlett Cup race for the first time since 2014. The Terriers jumped out to an early lead but Northeastern answered and pulled ahead over the final 1000 meters to take the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Varsity eight
In the varsity eight race for the Arlett Cup, BU's 1V, coxed by junior Sean Dooling and stroked by senior Jacob Barker, got out fast and was two seats up on the Huskies over the first 500 meters. Northeastern fought back and pulled even around the 1000m mark and began to build a lead over the second half of the race. Northeastern was able to maintain a six-seat lead down the stretch and held off the Terriers with a winning margin of 6:22.16 to 6:26.02.
Second varsity eight
The second varsity eight boat, coxed by senior Justin Goucher and stroked by freshman Jacob Raillon, fell behind early and could not recover. Northeastern led by two seats over the first 500 meters and increased the lead throughout the race, winning 6:24.16 to 6:34.13.
Third Varsity eight
The third varsity eight, coxed junior Jeanne Garner and stroked by sophomore Theodore Thun, got out to an early lead but Northeastern fought back and pulled ahead with 1000 meters to go. Northeastern won with a time of 6:41.40 to BU's 6:47.19.
Varsity Four
In BU's final race of the day, BU's varsity four boat, coxed by junior Nick Meehan and stroked by sophomore James Warren, pulled ahead of Northeastern at around the 500 meter mark and was able to maintain its lead throughout the race. The 4V finished well ahead of the Huskies, winning 7:23.19 to 7:29.63.
The Terriers will next travel to Hanover, N.H. to face Dartmouth for the Bill Cup on April 14th.
