BOSTON - The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight V8 boat came from behind to defeat No. 1 Stanford on Saturday in a duel race between the two best lightweight rowing boats in the country.

Racing on a cold and windy Charles River basin, the BU 1V fought off the Cardinal in a close race and finished with a time of 7:22.03, just ahead of Stanford's time of 7:23.64.

The Terriers' 1V, coxed by freshman Katie Barnett and stroked by sophomore Riona McCormick, battled with Stanford throughout the close race. Stanford got out to an early lead but BU battled back and pulled even at the 1000 meter mark. Over the final 500 meters, BU was able to pull ahead to a three-seat lead and hold on at the finish, winning with a time of 7:22.03 to Stanford's 7:23.64.

Later in the morning, the lightweight's 2V finished second in its race to Stanford. Coxed by freshman Antonella Kugler and stroked by junior Samantha Wapner, the 2V battled increasingly tough conditions and finished with a time of 8:25.68, well behind Stanford (7:49.94).

The Terriers will continue their spring season when they travel to Collingswood, N.J. to race in the Knecht Cup on April 14-15.
