PRINCETON, NJ – The Boston University Lightweight Varsity Eight Boat was ranked No. 1 in the USRowing Collegiate Coaches poll released this week. The Terriers received 38 points in the poll to just edge arch rival Stanford (37 points) and earned the No. 1 ranking for the first time in program history.
On April 7, the then No. 2 ranked Terriers defeated No. 1 Stanford on the Charles River but Stanford retained its No. 1 ranking. This week's ranking comes two weeks after the Terriers took home gold in the grand final of the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass.
Founded as a program in 2012, the BU lightweights have quickly become one the premiere lightweight teams in the nation. The Terriers won the 2016 Eastern Sprints overall championship title and finished as national runner-up to Stanford at the IRA National Championship Regatta in both 2016 and 2017.
The Terriers continue their season this weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta on May 11-12 in Philadelphia, Pa. before competing in the IRA National Championship Regatta on June 1–3 in Collingswood, N.J.
