Lightweight Rowing Prepares for IRA National Championship Regatta

BOSTON – For its final race of the 2026 spring slate, the Boston University lightweight rowing program travels to Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. for the IRA National Championship Regatta from May 30-31.
BU will send out three crews over the weekend in the form of a Lightweight 2x, 4+ and 8+. Saturday (May 30) features heats to determine placements into the finals for Sunday (May 31).
Tickets for fans attending the regatta are available on the IRA's official website. All sessions will stream live on Overnght.com with a paid subscription. Live results are also available on Regatta Timing.

- The Terriers last competed at the Eastern Sprints at Lake Quinsigamond on May 3.
- Both of BU's Doubles captured first place while the pair of Fours were silver medalists.
- The Lightweight 8 placed fourth in the Grand Final, giving the Terriers 56 team points.
- The final CRCA/Pocock Coaches Poll was released back on May 19.
- BU's two-time defending IRA gold medalist Double remained atop the leaderboard in the eight-school field.
- The Lightweight 4+ slotted in second, trailing only Princeton.
- BU's Lightweight 8+ was in third with Princeton and Harvard- Radcliffe taking the top two spots.
- For the second consecutive spring, BU was third in the team points while earning the gold medal in the Lightweight Double at the 2025 IRA National Championship.
- The Lightweight 4+ and 8+ were both fourth.
- Since 2015, the Terriers have finished in the top-three at the IRA National Championship in every year the team points were recorded.
- BU's Lightweight Double has won the gold medal five times in program history: 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024 and 2025.
- The Lightweight 4+ has earned six total medals, including runner-up efforts in 2019, 2021 and 2024.
- The Lightweight 8+ seeks its first medal since 2019. The crew finished second in each spring from 2016-18.
