Boston University's Department of Athletics and BU's Office of Government & Community Affairs hosted the second-annual BU Summer Sports Camp on Tuesday and Wednesday on BU's athletic fields. The event brought more than 70 children ages 8 through 12 from the Boston Center for Youth and Families' Leahy-Holloran Community Center in Dorchester to the university's campus for two days of sports and mentoring by student-athletes and coaches.

Camp activities included soccer, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, track & field and other games. In addition, campers were served lunch at BU's West Campus Dining Hall with BU student-athletes and coaches on hand to talk to campers about college life and the importance of an education. The annual camp is based on Boston University's and BCYF's shared mission that a college education should be available to children of all economic backgrounds.

"Once again it was our pleasure welcoming kids from the Boston Center for Youth and Families to our campus," Director of Athletics
Drew Marrochello said. "Getting children thinking about a college education at an early age is an important goal of ours and this event is a part of that effort. We hope the campers had as good a time as our student-athletes and coaches did."

"We are very thankful to all of the BU coaches, student-athletes and staff for taking the time out of their busy schedules to host the BU Summer Sports Camp," said Elizabeth Leary, director of community relations of BU's government and community affairs. "We had so much fun hosting BCYF and seeing the Terriers playing and interacting with kids from the inner city. It is never too early to get children thinking about a college education."
