
Kawasaki Leads BU in First Round of Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Freshman Hanako Kawasaki fired a one-under 71 to lead the Boston University golf team in the opening round of the Kiawah Island Classic on Sunday at Osprey Point GC.
Playing in the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, Kawasaki finished the day tied for 10th in the 254-player field. She helped BU finish the day tied for 20th out of 49 teams with a score of 304.
Kawasaki sank five birdies on Sunday and is just three shots back of the leader. She has been at par or better in three of her last four rounds, averaging a score of 70.5. Kawasaki's strong day was made possible in part because she played the par-4s at -1.
Senior Megan Carter competed as an individual and shot 73 to finish tied for 36th. Carter finished three shots ahead of the next closest individual golfer thanks to four birdies and a score of -1 on the par-3s.
Junior Annie Sritragul tied for 91st with a score of 76. Junior Abby Parsons was two strokes back of Sritragul with a 78, followed by classmate Zhangcheng Guo (79) and sophomore Katerina Doleckova (80).
BU will tee off at Oak Point GC for Monday's second round at 1:30.
