BOSTON - The Boston University men's rowing team will be back on the Charles River this Sunday when they take on archrival Northeastern in the annual battle for the Arlett Cup. The morning of racing was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed to Sunday due to weather concerns.
The race for the Arlett Cup vs. Northeastern will be the third race of the morning for BU when the No. 8 Terriers' varsity eight takes on the No. 6 Huskies at 8:30 a.m. BU will be looking to win the Arlett Cup race for the fourth time in five years. Last year the Terriers fell to the Huskies on the Charles River, breaking a run of three consecutive Arlett Cup victories for the BU V8.
The rivalry between BU and NU dates back to their first meeting in 1966 with the Arlett Cup being introduced in 1982. The cup is named in honor of Ernie Arlett, the founding coach of men's rowing at Northeastern University. Arlett is also known as the "Father of the Head of the Charles Regatta".
A live radio broadcast of the event can be heard on Stretch Internet starting approximately 7:30 a.m.
A live stream of the races can be seen on Stadium.
After this weekend's contest, the Terriers will face Dartmouth (for the Bill Cup) and George Washington on April 20 on the Charles River.
