
Top-Seed Navy Holds On to Eliminate Men's Tennis in PL Semifinals, 4-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Seeking its first appearance in a Patriot League tournament final, the No. 5-seeded Boston University men's tennis team rallied to force a third set in three singles matches but ultimately came up short to top seed and defending champion Navy, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
Winner of two tightly-contested doubles matches and two three-set singles contests, the Midshipmen improve to 30-13, while the Terriers see their season end at 9-16.

- Navy started doubles with a 6-4 victory at line 3 and then broke late in the No. 2 slot to clinch the crucial doubles point, 7-5.
- Sophomores David Bogatin and Owen Lu were in a 6-6 tiebreaker when the top match was halted.
- All six singles matches took place simultaneously with Navy claiming the first point at line 2 against Lu, 6-4, 6-3.
- Bogatin shortly thereafter picked up an impressive 6-3, 6-4 win in the top slot against reigning PL Player and Rookie of the Year Andrew Ton to put the Terriers on the scoreboard.
- The other four singles matches went to a third set with the Terriers winning the second in three contests.
- After being blanked in a first-set tiebreaker, Navy rallied to defeat freshman Max Hartenstein, 6-7(0), 6-3, 6-1, for its third point at line 4.
- The Midshipmen clinched the final point in the No. 6 slot by holding off junior Marc Sable's rally, 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1.
- When singles play was halted, sophomore Pete Siozios was ahead, 1-6, 7-6, 4-3 at line 3, while classmate Pedro Gutierrez was in a 3-6, 7-6, 5-5 deadlock.
- Having made five Patriot League semifinal appearances in the last six years, the Terriers will return everyone next season who participated in the 2019 conference tournament.
- Navy eliminated BU for the second consecutive year after edging the Terriers, 4-3, last season en route to the NCAAs.
- Seven Terriers finished with double-digit singles wins, led by Bogatin at 14 total.
- Bogatin and Lu also owned the most doubles wins with a 9-7 mark together.
