HOW IT HAPPENED
In the varsity eight race for the Michalson Cup, the BU V8, coxed by Sean Dooling and stroked by Nils Kocher, were up by two seats early and held a slight lead at the 500m mark. Brown cut into the lead over the next 500 meters and passed the Terriers at the 1000 meter mark. Brown held its lead despite a challenge by BU over the final 500 meters and finished with a time of 5:46.58 while BU crossed the line with a time of 5:48.35. The win marked the second-consecutive Michalson Cup victory for Brown.
The second varsity eight boat, coxed by Chloe Jacobs and stroked by Paul Giroux, fell behind Brown over the first 500 meters and could not close the gap over the final two thirds of the race. The Brown 2V won with a time of 6:03.36 while BU's 2V finished with a time of 6:13.65.
In the third varsity race, the BU 3V8, coxed by Grace Heavey and stroked by Andrew Marsh, worked its way back from an early deficit and pulled to within two seats of the Bears over the final 500 meters but could get no closer as Brown held off the Terriers, winning with a time of 5:57.23 to 5:59.78.
In the final race of the day, the BU 4V8 had a great performance and defeated Brown by open water. Coxed by freshman William Mulhall and stroked by classmate Benjamin Hunnewell, the BU fourth varsity jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The 4V cruised to an open water win with a time of 6:34.99, well ahead of Brown (6:44.96).
