SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - Competing for Canada, incoming freshman Foster Malleck won a gold medal in the 1,500m run at the U20 Pan American Championships on Sunday afternoon.
Despite racing at a high altitude, Malleck ran a personal-best time of 3:47.05 to cross the finish line first. He entered the event with a PR of 3:47.95. The Kitchener, Ontario, native, is the second Terrier in three years to win a medal for Canada at the U20 Pan American Championships; rising junior Laura Parkinson won silver in the 1,500m run prior to arriving on campus in 2017.
Malleck, who enjoyed a decorated high school career, will debut for the Terriers during the cross country season before beginning his first indoor track & field campaign.
