For the 12th straight year, GoTerriers.com will count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 7 in this year's Terrier 12Â is the athletic department's record-breaking year in the classroom as the student-athlete body set a new benchmark by posting a 3.24 grade-point average during the 2018-19 school year.Â
After a 3.23 department GPA in the fall semester, BU student-athletes came through with their best semester on record with a 3.25 in the spring. Twenty-two teams earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the second consecutive year while a record 295 student-athletes received Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recognition for earning a 3.2 or better during their semester(s) of competition.Â
In the fall, 22 student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA while 28 achieved the feat in the spring.Â
The athletic department has now broken its GPA record in each of the past four years.
"We are incredibly proud of the hard work put forth by our student-athletes both in the classroom and in their respective sports," said BU Director of Athletics
Drew Marrochello. "Our stretch of record-breaking academic success is a testament to their dedication to thrive at a world-class institution while competing at the Division I level."Â
BU's 24 varsity programs combined to earn above a 3.20 GPA in each semester for the second time in as many years. Women's tennis led the way with a 3.49 GPA for the year.
A total of 125 student-athletes earned their degrees in May with 25 of them graduating with Latin honors. Eight student-athletes in the Class of 2019 were inducted into the Scarlet Key honor society.
