Luevano Wins Season Opener at Colgate
September 7, 2019 | Men's Cross Country
HAMILTON, NY - Senior Paul Luevano finished first to lead the Boston University men's cross country team in its season opener on Saturday at Colgate.
Luevano finished the 6.4K course with a time of 19:45.2, best in a field of 84 runners and helping the Terriers finish third overall as a team in the annual Harry Lang XC Invitational.
Freshman Foster Malleck had a strong debut, finishing tenth with a time of 20:35.2, just ahead of BU junior Jonathan Fierro who finished 11th with a time of 20:35.3.
"I saw some good stuff from the team today and I also saw some stuff we need to work on," head coach Paul Spangler said. "I thought Paul ran well. We were without Brett Davidson today and I think the key to our team this year will be our third and fourth runners. Foster Malleck had a great debut and Jonathan Fierro also ran well. The talent is there and I think the team will be better in two months."
Luevano's win on Saturday took place on the same course where the Patriot League Championships will be held on Nov. 2.
The Terriers will next compete at Franklin Park in the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday, Sept. 20th.
