Hockey East Announces Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Schedules
November 11, 2020 | General, Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Both the Boston University men's and women's ice hockey teams will open their respective regular-season schedules on Friday, Dec. 4, as announced by Hockey East on Wednesday.
The men, who will open the season with a two-game series at Vermont, will play a total of 20 league contests. The women will begin their 18-game conference schedule with a weekend series at Maine. Both squads are slated to face each Hockey East school twice. The schedules feature weekend home-and-home series and day-of-game travel, with the exception of games involving Maine and Vermont, to allow for consistent testing protocols throughout the season while adhering to all state guidelines.
There are also two weekends for both the men and women that are designated as "flex weekends." These four contests are tentative and opponents may be adjusted in order to maintain a competitively balanced schedule for each team. If games are postponed during the regular season, these flex weekend games will be rescheduled with those postponed games. Any games played during flex weekends will be designated as non-conference games and will not count towards the league standings.
Official word on the Beanpot and Hockey East tournaments will be announced at a later date.
Led by third-year head coach Albie O'Connell, the men will return 20 letter winners from last year's squad, including First Team All-American David Farrance. Just the second BU defenseman to be a Hobey Baker top-10 finalist, Farrance led all Division I blue liners in points (43), goals (14) and power-play goals (9) last season. BU will also welcome three freshmen - goaltender Drew Commesso, forward Luke Tuch and forward Dylan Peterson - who were selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Senior Logan Cockerill will serve as captain while Farrance and redshirt junior Ty Amonte will be the assistant captains.
Now in his 16th season as the women's ice hockey team's head coach, Brian Durocher will lead a talented mix of veterans and newcomers in 2020-21. Senior co-captains Nara Elia and Jesse Compher are the team's leading returning scorers, with Elia posting a career-high 30 points (11g, 19a) last year. Senior goaltender Corinne Schroeder is back after she set new single-season program records last season when she ranked fourth in the NCAA with a .943 save percentage and was fifth among all NCAA goaltenders with a 1.54 goals-against average, and she will be joined between the pipes by junior Kate Stuart, who posted an impressive 8-1-1 record in 2019-20 with a .938 save percentage and a 1.58 goals-against average.
While spectators will not be permitted at home games, Hockey East will once again partner with NESN and ViacomCBS Digital to provide fans across the world the opportunity to view every single Hockey East game in the 2020-21 season. Today, Hockey East announced a slate of games that can be seen on NESN through January 1, as well as news that all other streamed games will be made available to fans for free on one of ViacomCBS Digital's platforms. Full television schedule details and How-To-Watch information about streamed games, as well as specific game times, will be announced in the coming days.
