CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After posting its best season since joining the Patriot League, the Boston University women's basketball team saw four student-athletes earn All-Patriot League honors, the conference announced Friday.
Maggie Pina was named the first Patriot League Rookie of the Year in program history, while
Katie Nelson joined Pina on the all-conference team, and
Maren Durant and
Sydney Johnson secured spots on the all-rookie team. BU's three freshmen mark the first time in league history where three members from the same program have been named to the all-rookie team. Durant was additionally named to the all-defensive team.
Pina broke onto the collegiate scene with an average of 11.6 points per game, leading all Patriot League rookies in scoring. The freshman took off following the opening month of the season, notching four 20-point games and scored in double figures in 16 games. The sharpshooter currently owns 69 makes from distance, which are the most Terrier rookie has scored in program history, and are the sixth-most 3-pointers a Terrier has made in a single season. Pina stepped up her game during the conference slate, boosting her scoring average to 13.0 points per game while connecting on 40.0 percent of her attempts from 3-point range.
Nelson earned her third straight All-Patriot League selection and her first nod to the second team after leading the Terriers in scoring (12.5), assists (3.7) and minutes (39.4) per game. The junior scored in double figures in 22 of 29 games during the regular season, with her highlight performance coming Dec. 21 against Dartmouth when she tied the single-game 3-point record with seven makes.
Johnson is in the midst of an impressive rookie campaign, ranking fourth on the team in scoring (7.7) and owns a team-high 41 steals. The rookie additionally ranks second on the team with 2.3 assists per game and has earned a starting nod 24 times.
Durant asserted herself as a dominant force in the post midway through the year, averaging 7.4 rebounds and 7.0 points per game in conference play, and additionally led the Terriers with a 54.4 shooting percentage. The Winchester, Massachusetts native accounts for 45 of BU's 70 blocks on the year and is one of two student-athletes in the league to average more than a block per game (1.6).
