April 29, 2020 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Soccer
BOSTON - Senior Shannon Keefe (women's soccer) and sophomore Walter Whyte (men's basketball) were selected by their peers as the Female and Male Breakout Athletes, as announced on Monday during the online ceremony for the 2019-20 Rhettys.
Keefe made vast improvements each season as a Terrier and produced her best season as a senior, leading the team in goals (3) and points (6). Keefe registered her second career brace in BU's conference opener against American and scored in the season finale at Lafayette. The Basking Ridge, New Jersey, native asserted herself into the starting lineup role this season and was named to the 2019 All-Patriot League Second Team.
After missing all of last season due to injury, Whyte took a major step forward in his game, as he went from a 2018 PL All-Rookie member to a 2020 All-PL Second Team honoree. This past year, the New Haven, Connecticut, native finished second on the team in both scoring (13.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) while draining a team-high 61 3-pointers. Boosted by two of his eight double-doubles, he increased those averages to 15.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg during the PL tournament to help the Terriers clinch their first automatic NCAA berth since 2011.
