BOSTON – Six Boston University athletic programs have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for having Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) in the top 10 percent within their sport, as announced by the NCAA on Tuesday.
The Terriers' men's and women's cross country, field hockey, women's golf, women's soccer and women's tennis teams were among 1,380 NCAA programs to be recognized with the award this year. This data reflects the entire four-year cohort ending with the 2018-19 academic year.
The announcement marked the 10th straight year that at least six BU teams finished in the top 10 percent of their respective sports. BU women's golf is one of just 62 teams nationally to earn the award in each of the 15 years the NCAA has been releasing APR data.
Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement. The rate measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic performance in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
