West Point, N.Y. – Using a steadfast all-around effort, the Boston University women's basketball team overmatched Army, 59-45, Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena.
Katie Nelson led all scorers with 15 points to go with a game-high five assists.
Riley Childs and
Chiara Tibbitt each grabbed seven rebounds, while
Maren Durant recorded three blocks and two steals.
The Terriers limited the Black Knights to just 21 points and a 28.0 percent (7-for-25) shooting mark from the floor in the second half en route to their fifth straight win in the series.
How It Happened
- BU struggled out of the gates, connecting on 1-of-8 attempts as Army pulled ahead, 9-2.
- Nelson knocked down a corner 3-pointer with 3:12 left to start a 7-0 streak as the Terriers tied it up at 9-all in under a minute.
- The Terriers continued to pour it on offensively, ending the first by making six of its last seven shots, while a 7-0 run paved the way for a 16-12 edge.
- Nelson maintained the hot hand, notching five more points to start the second as BU etched ahead, 21-15.
- Army responded with a flurry of triples to reclaim the upper hand, 24-22, but Sydney Johnson sliced her way to the basket for a mid-range jumper to tie it for the third time midway through the frame.
- Maggie Pina capped a 9-0 Terrier run over the final two minutes with a 3-pointer in transition, furthering the gap to 31-26 at the half.
- Nelson drilled another 3-pointer before Annabelle Larnard poured in five straight points to reclaim the eight-point margin, 39-31.
- Kelsi Mingo and Pina kept the 3-point barrage going, while the defense limited the Black Knights to seven points in the third, making it a 45-33 game.
- The Terriers attacked the lane to start the fourth, pushing the scoreboard to 53-38.
- From there, the defense held the Black Knights to shoot under 39 percent for the third straight quarter as BU close out a 59-45 victory.
