Terriers Close Season at NCAA Northeast Regional
November 12, 2021 | Women's Cross Country
BOSTON - The Boston University women's cross country team closed its 2021 campaign on Friday at the NCAA Northeast Regional, which was hosted at Franklin Park.
BU finished 12th in the 36-team field with a score of 325 points, well clear of 13th-place Stony Brook. That is the highest finish at an NCAA regional for BU since a 10th-place effort in 2010. The Terriers were also the top Patriot League school that competed at Franklin Park on Friday, as they bested Army West Point (19th), Holy Cross (27th) and Colgate (30th). Harvard won the event with 71 points.
"I thought both programs ran their best team races of the season today," associate head cross country coach Jordan Carpenter said. "We set some ambitious goals for the race and both squads rose to meet the challenge presented to them. We return much of both regional squads so we really see this as just a preview of what is to come for our programs. Next, we will turn our focus to the track and build off a really strong finish to the cross country season."
All five Terrier scorers placed in the top 100 on Friday. Graduate student Corinne Batsu led the Terriers in 38th place with a 6K time of 21:37 to close out her terrific cross country career at BU.
"Corinne finished on a high note," Carpenter said. "After a huge fourth-place finish at the Patriot League Championship, she posted her best-ever regional finish to lead our team to our best finish since 2010. We couldn't be more proud of what Corinne has given to this program."
Junior Andrea Claeson crossed the line in 55th out of 252 runners with a time of 21:54, followed by senior Meghan Convery (22:06) in 65th, graduate student Madeline Bachmann (22:13) in 78th) and sophomore Daisy Liljegren (22:28) in 89th. Graduate student Veronica Kriss finished 104th with a time of 22:43 while senior Angela Castronuovo ran a time of 23:27.
BU closed the season with three top-five finishes and five top-12 performances in six meets this fall. The Terriers boasted three First Team All-Patriot League runners (Batsu, Claeson, Convery) and two Academic All-Patriot League selections (Batsu, Claeson).
The Terriers will now gear up for the indoor track & field season, which begins with the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 4 at the Track and Tennis Center.
