BOSTON - Impressive collegiate debuts throughout the day highlighted the start of the indoor track & field season at Boston University as the Terriers hosted the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday at the Track & Tennis Center.
Freshman
Toby Makoyawo broke the school record in the men's 60-meter dash on his first try, turning in a 6.76 in the prelims before winning the final in a time of 6.70. Those marks topped the previous record of 6.80, set by Johann Jack 22 years ago.

The throwing cage was dominated by Terriers on Saturday with wins in three of the four events.

In her collegiate debut, freshman Kiana Lino headlined a 1-2-3 BU finish in the women's shot put as her top throw of 14.65 meters edged out grad student Bridget Bishop (14.27) and sophomore Emma Kowalski (13.05). Kowalski took first in the weight throw at 17.29 meters while Lino was third (14.30).

On the men's side, freshmen
Gabe Hickman and
Cole Tucker made outstanding first impressions in the shot put with Hickman winning it with a toss of 17.09 meters and Tucker placing third at 14.30.

Another win for a BU freshman came in the women's high jump as Asia Hamilton topped the competition with a height of 1.74 meters. She also placed fourth in the long jump (5.48), right behind classmate Emma Lawrence who was third at 5.65.

Sophomore Lisa Weyhenmeyer's collegiate debut was a success in the triple jump as she won the event with a leap of 11.79 meters while Lawrence added another third-place finish with a mark of 11.52 meters.

Sophomore Isabela Shepard won a tight race in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:36.23 and senior
Kasim Cisse claimed the high jump at 2.05 meters.

Other strong finishes came from senior Lauren Sikoski (3rd, pole vault – 3.45 meters), sophomore
Max Gorriaran (4th, 600 – 1:20.99), junior
Cameron McLeod (4th, 800 – 1:56.54), sophomore
Uchenna Nwosu (5th, 60 hurdles – 8.15) and freshmen
Steven Franco (5th, high jump – 1.85) and
Sam Roszak (5th, triple jump – 12.67).
