CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - A program-record three members of the Boston University women's cross country team were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, including Andrea Claeson, who was named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Tuesday.
It's another impressive accolade for Claeson in a shortened season that has been full of honors for the Sweden native. Claeson, who competed at the NCAA Championship on Monday, posted a 3.83 grade-point average as a public relations major. Not only did she excel in the classroom, but she excelled on the course, finishing runner-up at the conference championship to help BU claim its second straight Patriot League title.
In addition to Claeson's achievement, two of her teammates also earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League squad. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley, who finished fourth at the conference meet en route to a First Team All-Patriot League nod, earned a 3.30 GPA as a business administration and management major.
Madeline Bachmann made a great impact in her first-ever Patriot League cross country meet, as she finished 10th to receive Second Team All-Patriot League accolades. Bachmann recorded a 3.85 GPA while studying international relations.
This is the second straight season that BU has boasted the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as Abigail Gugel earned that honor in 2019. The Terriers have now produced nine harriers that made the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
