
Women’s Rowing Defeats Dartmouth, UMass and BC

BOSTON - The Boston University's women's openweight rowing team defeated crews from Dartmouth, UMass and BC on Saturday. Racing under blustery conditions on the Charles River, the BU varsity eight and second varsity eight both pulled away from their competition and won by open water.
The BU 2V4 also was victorious, beating BC's A and B 4, while the BU varsity four boat fell to BC in the Terriers only loss of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first race of the morning, the BU V8, coxed by Mia Ball and stroked by Megan Mastrorilli, ot out to a fast start and never looked back. BU lead ad the 500 meter mark and continued to stretch its advantage throughout the race. The V8 cruised to victory over the final 500 meters, winning with a time of 7:42.28. UMass finished seconds (7:52.30), Dartmouth was third (7:57.72) and BC was last (7:59.28).

Next up was the second varsity eight boat, coxed by Christina Lamagna and stroked by Tiare Hicks. The BU 2V8 got off to a good start and pulled into the lead over the 500 meters. BU kept up the pressure and never relinquished the lead, extending it to a length and open water over the second half. BU won with a time of 7:52.53, followed by Dartmouth (8:00.83), UMass (8:15.79) and BC (8:23.12).
V4
The varsity four, coxed by Kellyann Reidy and stroked by Tess Ravick, fell behind BC over the first 500 meters and couldnt recover. BC finished with a time of 9:21.23 while BU finished in 9:34.83.
2V4
The second varsity four, coxed by Heidi Cook and stroked by Lily Kelly, ended the morning on a winning note for the Terriers by defeating two BC fours. The 2V4 stretched its lead over the final 500 meters and won with a time of 9:26.66 ahead of the BC A (9:35.80) and BC B (9:44.08).
UP NEXT
The Terriers will be right back at it on Sunday, May 2 as they take on URI, BC and Northeastern on the Charles River.
