Men's Ice Hockey Announces Class of 2025

BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey program will welcome five freshman to its roster for the 2021-22 season, head coach Albie O'Connell announced on Thursday.

Three forwards and two defensemen will join the squad, bringing this season's roster to 27 skaters and three goaltenders.

"Our coaching staff is really looking forward to seeing what these five freshmen can accomplish at BU," O'Connell said. "Not only are these young men talented, but they are are high-character individuals who we are proud to call Terriers. I think they will be perfect additions to our roster, and our entire team is excited to kick off the 100th season of BU Hockey."

Tristan Amonte

F • 6-0 • 165 • Norwell, Mass. • Penticton Vees (BCHL)

Skated two seasons with the Penticton Vees of the BCHL, totaling 48 points (21g, 27a) in 74 games … In 2020-21, notched six goals and added eight assists for 14 points in 18 contests and won his team's Most Inspirational award … Recorded eight game-winning goals over two seasons with the Vees, including six in 2019-20 … Tallied 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 2019-20 … Prior to his time with Penticton, played at Thayer Academy, where he totaled 23 goals and 93 assists for 116 points during his four seasons there … Also spent time with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL.

O'Connell on Amonte: "Tristan is very competitive and gives us another center who will play on the right side of the puck. He has a good skill set and can make high-level plays. Tristan plays with the same edge as his brother Ty."

Tyler Boucher

F • 6-1 • 200 • Haddonfield, N.J. • U.S. National Under-18 Team

Member of the U.S. National Team Development Program … Selected 10th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2021 NHL Draft … Skated in 12 games with the U18 team and finished with 11 points (6g, 5a) … Notched nine goals and added 17 assists for 26 points in 43 games with the U17 team during the 2019-20 campaign … Totaled 23 points (9g, 14a) in 26 games with Avon Old Farms in 2018-19.

O'Connell on Boucher: "Tyler is a true power forward who will impact our lineup with his speed, size, strength and skill. He will make guys around him better and also clear space for his linemates. Tyler will be able to score with his shot, and he has great sense and hands as well."

Brian Carrabes 

F • 5-10 • 165 • North Andover, Mass. • Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)

Played the past two years in the USHL … In 2020-21, led the Sioux City Musketeers with 40 points thanks to 21 goals and 19 assists in 45 games … Skated with the Sioux Falls Stampede in 2019-20, posting 27 points (8g, 19a) in 42 games … Played the 2018-19 season with Kimball Union Academy, tallying 32 points (11g, 21a) in 37 games … Skated two seasons with St. John's Prep (2016-18), totaling 29 goals and 28 assists for 57 points in 45 games.

O'Connell on Carrabes: "Brian is a right-winger who has great speed, quickness, skill and competitiveness. He'll have the chance to be a pest-type player who has a quick shot and can fill the net. I'm looking forward to seeing him play this fall."

Braden Doyle

D • 5-11 • 170 • Lynnfield, Mass. • Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL)

Skated for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL for the last three seasons … Selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft … Notched 24 points (5g, 19a) in 51 games for Dubuque in 2020-21 … Posted 32 points (7g, 25a) in 48 games during the 2019-20 campaign … Joined Dubuque in 2018-19 after three seasons with Lawrence Academy, where he totaled 71 points (14g, 57a) in 86 games.

O'Connell on Doyle: "Braden has the ability to give us offense from the blue line, as he has done throughout his career. He should be able to impact our team with his play both with and without the puck."

Ty Gallagher

D • 6-0 • 188 • Clarkston, Mich. • U.S. National Under-18 Team

Member of the U.S. National Team Development Program … Taken by the Boston Bruins in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft … Set the NTDP record for goals by a defenseman with 25 during his two seasons with the program … Secured 27 points (14g, 13a) in 48 games with the NTDP in 2020-21 … Led all defensemen in goals at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship with three … Secured 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points with the U.S. National Under-17 Team in 2019-20.

O'Connell on Gallagher: "Ty is a very competitive two-way defenseman with a big shot. He has the ability to give us a shooting threat from the blue line and he can impact the game offensively."
