
Golf Places Fourth at William & Mary Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Thanks to top-ten individual performances from sophomore Flair Kuan and senior Hanako Kawasaki, the Boston University women's golf team shot a 290 in the third and final round of the William & Mary Invitational on Monday to move up two spots and secure a fourth-place finish in the tournament.
BU led all 15 teams on Monday with its score of 290. Kawasaki shot a team-best 70 and finished with a 217 (+1), good for seventh, which was one shot behind Kuan, whose even total of 216 placed her sixth among the 79 competitors following her final-round 74.
After sitting in eighth place following the first round, the Terriers moved up two spots in each of the following two rounds to finish fourth at 876 (+12), just one shot behind third-place UNC Wilmington. James Madison won the tournament with an 870 (+6) to edge second-place Princeton by one stroke. Old Dominion rounded out the top five with an 878.
Freshman Victoria Takai competed as an individual and impressed with a 229 (+13), which was better than 34 of the other golfers.
BU finished first among all teams in birdies with 42 and was the best on par 3s with a combined score of -4.
The Terriers will return to action next Monday (Sept. 20) when they compete in the two-day Boston College Intercollegiate at Blue Hill Country Club in Milton.

"We played a nice tournament down here at William & Mary," said head coach Bruce Chalas. "When you shoot 876 for an average of 73 per player per round, that's a fantastic start. The team has been working hard and we are in a great spot to launch a successful fall. I'm very excited and pleased with this weekend."
Junior Alice Fan had her best round of the tournament on Monday, shooting a one-under 71 to finish at 220 (+4), which tied her for 14th.
