
Women's Ice Hockey Edged at No. 13 Vermont, 2-1

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Boston University men's ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 contest to No. 13 Vermont on Friday afternoon in the opener of a weekend series at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
All three goals in the game came on the power play as the Catamounts opened the scoring midway through the second before freshman Sydney Healey tied it up just 61 seconds later. Vermont got the winner early in the third as Natalie Mlynkova notched her second goal of the contest when she sent home a loose puck from the slot.
Graduate student Andrea Brändli made 31 saves in goal for the Terriers, who move to 3-8-0 overall and 2-7-0 in Hockey East play.
HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first period included two Vermont power plays as the Terriers had back-to-back penalties, resulting in a brief 5-on-3 advantage, but Brändli and the Terriers were up to the task and the teams headed into the second period scoreless despite a 10-1 shot advantage for the home team in the first.
- BU went on the power play 7:15 into the second frame and had a 5-on-3 chance at 9:11 but nothing came of the skater advantage.
- The next UVM power play opened the scoring as the Catamounts were able to keep the puck in the BU zone and Mlynkova curled around the outer edge of the right circle before finding the back of the net while approaching the slot at the 12:44 mark of the second.
- Moments later, BU got a power play of its own and Healey evened the score when she poked the puck into the net off a rebound from her own shot at 13:45.
- Seniors Nadia Mattivi and Julia Nearis assisted on the tally.
- After commotion at the net, a saved shot by Brändli got loose, allowing Mlynkova to backhand the puck into the net from the right side of the crease to take a 2-1 lead and record what would be the game-winner.
- The teams had a combined nine penalties in the third and there were two 4-on-4 situations and two 5-on-3 UVM advantages as a result.
- BU went on the power play for the final 55 seconds of regulation but could not find the back of the net and Vermont hung on for the win.
- The Terriers were 1-for-6 on the power play while the Catamounts were 2-for-10.
- The Catamounts outshot the Terriers 33-17.
- Vermont junior Jessie McPherson, made 16 saves to earn the win in goal.
- Healey's goal was her fourth of the season.
- Sophomore Christina Vote tied for the game high in blocked shots with four.
- The teams will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday (Nov. 12).
- Game time at Gutterson Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m.
