AMESBURY, Mass. - Freshman goaltender
Callie Shanahan of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was unanimously selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, the league announced on Thursday.
Shanahan was spectacular for the Terriers in her debut campaign with the team. She posted a .926 save percentage and a 2.36 goals-against average in 13 appearances en route to a 6-5-2 record, with each tie being a 1-1 final. Shanahan secured her first collegiate shutout in just her second-ever start, stopping all 16 shots she faced in a 5-0 win over New Hampshire on Oct. 2. She made at least 30 saves on five separate occasions, including a 53-save effort at nationally ranked Northeastern on Jan. 21. Shanahan also turned aside 42 shots in her most recent start, a 1-1 tie at Providence on Feb. 18.
A native of Commerce, Michigan, Shanahan is the fourth Terrier goaltender in program history to be named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team, joining Allyse Wilcox (2006), Kerrin Sperry (2011) and
Corinne Schroeder (2018). BU has now placed 18 players on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
The Terriers will begin their quest for a sixth Hockey East title on Saturday when they travel to UConn. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
