Women's Rowing Set to Open NCAA Championships Friday Morning
May 26, 2022 | Women's Rowing
The Terriers are guided by fifth-year director of women's rowing and 2022 Patriot League Coach of the Year Madeline Davis Tully. They will race against a field of 21 other NCAA Division I teams, including 10 other conference champions. Winner of four national titles with the last coming in 1992, BU is making its ninth overall appearance (1998-01, 03, 06, 13-14, 22) at the NCAAs, which began in 1997.
During their last visit in Indianapolis, they placed 20th overall with the 21st seeded varsity eight boat finishing ahead of 2014 A-10 champion UMass and MAAC champion Jacksonville. Racing at 9:40 a.m., the two-time Patriot League Boat of the Week varsity eight boat clinched the 2022 PL title by defeating six-time defending champion Navy with a silver-medal finish back on May 13. Highlighted by earlier notable wins over 2022 CAA champion Northeastern and A-10 champion Rhode Island, the crew is seeded 19th and will race against No. 3 Stanford, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 11 Oregon State, No. 14 Syracuse and No. 22 Jacksonville. The top two crews will advance to Saturday's semifinals, while the others will compete in the repechage later in the afternoon.
After claiming its first-ever gold medal in the Patriot League Grand Final, the 19th-seeded second varsity eight boat will race No. 3 Washington, No. 6 Penn, No. 11 Virginia, No. 14 Duke and No. 22 Northeastern. Start time is set for 10:12 a.m. for the crew that earned PL Boat of the Week honors following a fourth-place finish at Eastern Sprints.
Racing at 11 a.m., the varsity four boat earned the silver at the Patriot League Championship and will wrap up the morning heat session as the No. 19 seed. The Terriers will be joined by No. 3 Princeton, No. 6 Brown, No. 11 California, No. 14 Oregon State and No. 22 Jacksonville.
